FAMILY FUN AT DIRTOPIA MOUNTAIN BIKE FESTIVAL'S 10TH ANNIVERSARY
04-May-2010

Mountain bikers of all ages flocked to the Tarentaalkraal Campsite, just outside Greyton this past weekend (Friday 30 April till Sunday 02 May) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Dirtopia Mountain Bike Festival.

According to event organiser Arina Botha, Dirtopia has grown into one of the
most popular lifestyle festivals on the annual mountain bike calendar. While
there are many bigger 'funrides' on the national calendar, they tend to be
stuck in the rut of offering riders the opportunity to "arrive, ride and go
home": not Dirtopia!  "We are thrilled with this year's attendance.  With
over 800 riders and 450 campers, the atmosphere was great - a celebration of
10 years of Dirt.  Good times were had by all from the younger crowd of dirt
jumpers who partied till late at the bonfire while the slightly older crowd
enjoyed the Saturday night entertainment provided by Akkedis in the marquee.
This event remains the most diverse event celebrating mountain bike culture
like no other.  I think families had the best time ever with near-perfect
weather this weekend and it was great to see children enjoying the outdoors,
roaming the campsite and even catching frogs in the river.  On Saturday the
festival village was stampeded by riders of all ages including women,
children and older riders, making the Dual track the biggest attraction.  We
are pleased that the Dirtopia Mountain Bike Festival has been able to supply
riders with a weekend of dirt and fun for the past ten years.

The Dirtopia Mountain Bike Festival is a family event that offered an array
of activities including Enduro rides, dirt jumping, funride, downhill,
hillclimb, a spectacular night ride, and night dual.  Spectators were
further entertained withevents like the Freeride and Observed Trials.

Runners also had the opportunity to join in the fun by taking part in the
Tsiba Education Trail Run presented by New Balance on Sunday.  Proceeds went
towards the Tsiba Education Fund. Youngsters had the opportunity to team up
with their parents and tackle the kiddies for the Kids Adventure Race on
Sunday (02 May 2010).  This race was made up of a cycle, run and tube leg.
The Spur activities area also provided hours of fun and excitement.

In addition to all the exciting mountain bike events, trail running and
children's activities, Akkedis also returned for their 8th appearance at the
festival.

The next event on the calendar is the Amarider 100 Miler on the 22nd of June
starting and finishing in Malmesbury.
